The Slater Cabin, Catskill Mountains
An unremarkable mountain dwelling, notable only for having briefly housed a consciousness considerably older and larger than the Catskills backwoods around it. The cabin itself outlived its tenant by exactly one night.
Whereabouts: An isolated mountaineer's cabin in the Catskill Mountains, New York — the kind of backwoods holding a census taker might easily miss for a generation.
Access: By the same rough mountain tracks any of the area's scattered mountaineer families would use; the patient's committal to a New York asylum is the only reason the case reached anyone outside the region at all.
