Gilman, Keziah Mason, Brown Jenkin, and the house itself all survive the trip intact, but around them the production builds an entire invented plot — a twin sister abducted years before, an ending in which Brown Jenkin's corpse animates and wears Gilman's body — with no basis anywhere in the published account. Less a scrub than a wholesale annex; no explanation for the addition appears in the production's own record.
