The Lighthouse (2019)

On record from the director himself, named alongside M.R. James, Arthur Machen, Algernon Blackwood, and Poe as part of a shared reading he and his brother grew up on. He has said just as plainly, in the same breath, that he deliberately steered away from anything resembling this Archive's own explicit style, favoring suggestion over description. A named citation, then, but a qualified one — an acknowledged influence the production then spent real effort not resembling too closely. Nothing here pins to a single entity or chronicle: a glimpsed mermaid, a beached horror on the rocks, a forbidden light at the top of a tower that ends the man who finally reaches it. General enough to file at the same remove as the Archive's other tone-only occurrences.
