A winged, batlike shape that hunts down whoever disturbs the grave of the ghoul it was buried to guard, tracking a stolen jade amulet across any distance its thieves try to put between themselves and a five-hundred-year-old Dutch churchyard. The story marking its first appearance is also the first in Lovecraft's fiction to name the forbidden book that would go on to anchor half the archive's later dossiers.
