The Elder Things' City
A dead metropolis of star-shaped towers and sculpted stone predating the dinosaurs, built and long abandoned by a species that seeded life on Earth by accident. Its museum-like corridors preserve, in bas-relief, the planet's entire deep history — including the falling-out with a servitor race that ended the city for good.
Whereabouts: Beyond a previously unmapped mountain range in Antarctica's interior, higher than the Himalayas and avoided by every expedition since.
Access: By aircraft, flown in by the Miskatonic University Antarctic Expedition of 1930–31 after a preceding camp's disappearance; getting out again cost the expedition its remaining nerve, and its official report recommends nobody fly back in.
