Rue d'Auseil

A crooked, high-walled street of old buildings leaning over a black river no map of Paris seems to record. Its topmost garret window, in the building where Erich Zann lodged, is said to look out on something no other window in the city shows.

Whereabouts: A steep, ancient street somewhere in Paris — the narrator searched for it afterward on every map he could find and never located it again.

Access: On foot, as a lodger; the narrator took a garret room there purely because the rent was low, without realizing the street would prove impossible to relocate once he'd left it.
