The account is faithful in outline — a stranded traveler, an isolated coastal town, an older allegiance to something offshore — but the setting has been relocated from Innsmouth, Massachusetts, to a fishing village on the Spanish coast, and the town renamed outright. The Archive treats this as a scrub rather than an adaptation choice: too many incidental details survive the move intact for it to read as invention.
