Castle Freak (1995)
The chronicle's whole engine is sympathy — a thing kept in the dark long enough to become monstrous, meeting its own reflection for the first time. The production inverts that outright, recasting the confined figure as a straightforward antagonist in a family revenge plot and relocating the account from an unspecified dungeon to a leased Italian castle. This is the third title on file from this director (see also Re-Animator, From Beyond); the pattern of gutting a quieter horror into something louder and easier to dismiss is by now treated as house style rather than accident.
